Boswellia Serrata( Salai guggal or Frankincense) is found in India, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. Boswellic Acids are a series of penta-cyclic triterpenes from the gum resin of Boswellia Serrata tree. Our boswellia extract is standardized for the active triterpenoids called boswellic acids (β-boswellic acid, acetyl-β-boswellic acid, 11-keto-β-boswellic acid and acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid) supporting anti-inflammatory and anti-elastase activity.
Boswellia serrata extract exhibits anti-aging/anti-elastase & anti-inflammatory activity.
Boswellic acids inhibits the activity of elastase (protease) responsible for breakdown of elastin ,thus improving the skin’s mechanical properties including firmness, elasticity, suppleness, strength and skin aging. It helps rebuild the skin matrix by stimulating the collagen and elastin synthesis and minimizing the skin matrix degradation. Boswelic acid is also effective in treatment of acne and oily skin as it is useful against many bacterial species, particularly against Propionibacterium acnes. The boswellia resin can be used as a topical antiseptic to thwart growth of pathogens in wounds making Boswellia extremely useful in various anti-septic creams.
Boswellic acid is also a natural potent inhibitor of proinflammatory enzyme called 5-LOX (a.k.a 5-lypooxygenase) that lead to leukotriene biosynthesis mainly responsible for inflammation and allergic reactions. Therefore, it can also be orally administered for the cure of numerous inflammatory diseases and cancer because of its anti-inflammatory, immune-modulatory and stimulatory actions.
